sneak peek!

Malcolm Brown Gallery presents in exhibition, RHONDA BROWN: PAINTINGS,a showcase of 20 new works that depict a cast of colorful images; some from historical reference and others have evolved from memories, stories and dreams under the theme, “Shine Your Light on the World.” The exhibition opens on Friday, November 23, 6-8 p.m. and continues on view through January 5, 2008. Due to popularity, the exhibition has been extended to January 31, 2008.

Viewer response, acquisition and ongoing requests for work have inspired Rhonda to continue the distinguished artistic legacy of her father, Malcolm Brown. Exposure to the visual arts began very early in childhood through art fairs and exhibitions attendance as a baby with family. Her talent and interest were nurtured and enhanced during youth and teen years through observing and painting with her father, attending children's classes at the Cleveland Museum of Art and Cleveland Institute of Art as well as entering student exhibitions.

Born and reared in Shaker Heights, Rhonda graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1987 and attended Ohio State University as a Sarah Jane Pyne Memorial Scholar where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. During her years at Ohio State University, she spent a semester abroad in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico and during the summer of 1988, she was one of twelve college students from across the nation selected to participate in the US/Korea Exchange Project as an intern in the Korean National Assembly in Seoul, Korea. After receiving a B.F.A., she interned at the Cleveland Museum of Art in the Department of Education and Public Programs and left Cleveland to pursue a Master of Arts in Art History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated in 1995.

Brown’s genuine love and passion for the arts is evident through her career path which began as Coordinator Special Projects, Department of Education and Public Programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago followed by Director of Development positions in the visual arts arena through 2006. Currently, the Director of Development for Planned Parenthood Chicago, it is said that Rhonda Brown is one of the young, emerging artists to watch.

The exhibition is free and the public is invited. Selected images maybe seen at www.malcolmbrowngallery.com. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday, 11-6 p.m.; Saturday, 11-4 p.m.
